Cassie, Casey, Pippy, Gabi, and now Gabriela. Really, who knows what this poor fishy's name is. Stella can't decide and when people ask, she just says that they can call her whatever they want. The good news is that she's still alive, even after almost 6 months and the horrific loogie incident.

There are two stories really. And first of all, let me start by saying that I have a serious gagging reaction to any sort of fluid or residue coming from anyone but my own child or myself. Now on that note, if you like to continue reading . . .
I had some friends over for a party and just as I looked up from my comfortable seat on the couch, I saw the grossest loogie dripping from my friend's son's mouth into the fish bowl. I don't remember how I got there, but I do remember saying very loudly "THAT IS NOT OK!" as everyone scattered and my gagging began. The poor fishy was being chased around by the stringy mess as I was trying desperately to get her into a different watery home and not barf in the process. Even writing this, I gag. Good news though, I didn't barf and little no name got her bowl cleaned out thrice that week.
By the way, when kids apologize for stuff like that, what is your response supposed to be? I wasn't going to say, "It's OK," because spitting is definitely NOT OK. I can't even remember what I said. I may have still been focusing on controlling my gag reflex.
Story #2 involves me and my spitting experiences. May I also just add right here that I only dedicated about a year of my life to being a heathen. It didn't work out for me, so I stopped and became the delightful person I am today. Here we go then . . .

I can't find my 6th grade picture in 1989-90, so this one will have to do (it's 5th grade). Just picture me 10 pounds heavier, my teeth gap more than closed - crossed over even, bangs swooped and hairsprayed to the side, acne, and wearing overalls. I know, I'll try to find it.
I had started band in 5th grade playing the trumpet. I thought I was pretty cool because my brother Miles also played the same trumpet. However, in 6th grade we got a new band teacher named Ron Gerhardstein. He hated me from the beginning. I can't remember why, but for some reason I got on his nerves. I know, hard to believe, right? There were others who were on his bad list as well: Matt Roberts, Anna Slade, and Anna Woods. I enlisted their help.
The band room was on the stage by the gym/cafeteria and it was the last hour of the day. So when we were released from band, we exited through a door that went by the faculty cars.
It must have been a rough day in band when (I'm not saying it was me because I honestly don't remember) we all SPAT upon Mr. G's little grey car. Next day, it happened again. It also seems as though Matt and I kept getting sent to the office to talk to the perpetually smiling Principal Mrs. Campbell (even while she was disciplining). Still, the spitting continued and even covered more of the vehicle.
One day I walked into band class and was IMMEDIATELY sent to the office without even causing a fuss yet. Matt was already sitting by the office. I remember wondering what in the world could have happened that I would get into trouble without even sitting down yet. Mrs. Campbell sat us down and spoke to us about spitting on Mr. G's car. As unapologetic as we were, we just wanted to know who told on us. She wouldn't tell us. I don't remember if it was me or Matt, but we told on Anna Slade and Anna Woods as well. They joined us in the office.
I had to call my mother. I was mortified. Not sorry, just mortified. This situation took the entire band hour and I was getting antsy about missing my bus. However, Mrs. Campbell would not let us leave until we apologized to Mr. G. Matt did so without hesitation (though I knew he wasn't sorry). Anna and Anna both started crying as they apologized and I maintained my stoic composure as I reluctantly apologized without looking him in the eye so that I could hurry and get to my bus.
I didn't learn anything from this experience right away. Sure, we stopped spitting on his car, but I still didn't like him for not liking me for no reason. My heathen ways continued into 7th grade where I had to issue another insincere apology to Mr. G, but not for much longer. Besides, it was just Mr. G that got on my nerves.
As an adult, I realize how incredibly disgusting spitting is and if Stella did this, I'm sure she would barely be living. I can only imagine how mortified my parents were, as they should have been.
So can you believe that I found Mr. G on Facebook this year and apologized to him, sincerely this time, for the grief I caused him in 6th and 7th grade? He graciously accepted my apology and probably got a good laugh at my many years of tortured expense.
By the way, it was Bret Moye that told on us. Just thought you'd like to know. :)
