The Grand Canyon

We went to the Grand Canyon with Mike and Mari Ashby a few weeks ago. It was totally fun . . . at least we had fun! I hope they still want to be friends after spending so much time with us!

We drove to Flagstaff on Friday night, ate at Black Bart's -- a restaurant that employs NAU Music students . . . yes, they sing . . . well, some of them did -- and then we spent the night at a hotel so we could get a good start on the morning. I'm embarrassed that Stella's pants are so short. I haven't been prepared for colder weather yet this year, and she's out-grown all of her pants!

The Ashby's (both raised in Arizona) have never seen the Grand Canyon, so we were happy to be their tour guides. After their first glance at the giant hole in the ground, a little tarantula visited us . . . Stella was not afraid! Good thing we had her strapped to a monkey back-pack leash so she wouldn't join my Mother's uncle in the canyon. Yes, I have a relative that fell to his death at the Grand Canyon. I'd always heard the story told that they were taking a picture and he fell to a ledge, stood up and dusted himself off, and then fell again to his death. But in the book it says this:

"Joseph Fielding Smith, Jr. Age 61 (August 22, 1974) - Cape Royal Overlook, North Rim - Smith attempted to jump from a ledge on the rim to a dirt slope about five feet lower. He lost his balance and slipped into a free-fall of 35 feet."

The store owner told me that he estimated that about 20 people fall in the Grand Canyon per year. Just a few weeks before we came, a 4-year-old had fallen, hence the absolute need for the monkey back-pack, which Stella loved (thanks Lynnae).

It was a little windy, we saw the sights, ate some ice cream, and looked over some ledges. On our way out of the park, we encountered a lot of wildlife both on the trail and along side the road (deer and elk).

We were all tired, but Elliot managed to get out and visit another Mary Jane Coulter building before we headed home. Stella passed out shortly after we left. Thanks for the fun weekend Ashbys!

I get a little camera-happy, so here is about half of the pictures that I took:

By Request

In a previous post, Stella was singing a song that I originally thought was completely unidentifiable . . . you guys obviously understand my daughter better than I do because you were right, she was singing "Maybe" from Annie. It is now one of her favorite bedtime songs. Our DVD of Annie is a little scratched and since our DVD player is so hyper-sensitive to scratches, it doesn't play the whole movie. So Stella has never really seen the part of the movie with the song "We Got Annie" (my personal favorite) and "Tomorrow" (not a favorite). So this weekend at Grandma's house, she was finally able to watch the other songs. She was a little busy when I asked her to sing, but here is what she knows of "Tomorrow" song!

Macy Geneve Campbell

She’s finally here! My BFF Emily gave birth to Macy this morning at 7:43 a.m. and she weighed 7 pounds 10 ounces! She is just perfect! I think she looks just like Sammy, but babies always change so fast! Em was pretty drugged up, but so obviously thrilled to finally have baby girl to hold in her arms!

I hope Macy doesn’t get confused as to who her mother really is because I’ll be over there EVERYDAY just lovin’ that little princess! Congratulations Travis, Emily, Joe, Sam, and Clarkie!

What song is Stella singing?

Stella sings this song every day. For quite some time I really had NO IDEA what she was singing, but she obviously did. She finally told me what movie it was from. Can you guess?

Sorry I keep accidentally recording sideways. I’m slow.

Sketch

Look what I found! For our "second honeymoon" we went to San Diego to see the sights. It's still in my top 5 favorite places that we've gone since we've been married. Elliot hates this sketch, but I think it's funny.

Happy Anniversary to US!

Happy Anniversary to US! Elliot and I are celebrating 8 blissful years of marriage today! I love you so much Elliot Dibble!

Mom's Group

We had a Mom's Group at our house today. I made some sugar cookies for the kids to decorate and they made a splendid mess, but I think they had fun doing it!

Happy #30 Birthday Elliot!

30 THINGS I LOVE ABOUT ELLIOT! Happy Birthday Sweetie!

1. I love how excited Elliot gets about certain movies.
2. I love how Elliot eats his whole bag of popcorn at the theater before the movie even starts.
3. I love the position Elliot sleeps in.
4. I love the voices Elliot uses when he reads to Stella.
5. I love how hard Elliot can laugh when he is deliriously tired!
6. I love the new (more accurate) words Elliot makes up to Disney songs.
7. I love how Elliot gets the hiccups when he laughs too hard.
8. I (sort of) love Elliot’s fruitless recovery attempts when he falls asleep while listening to me talk.
9. I love it when Elliot does his karate chop kick unexpectedly.
10. I love that Elliot learned how to iron his own clothes.
11. I love how Elliot can fall asleep in the middle of the song he’s singing to Stella as he’s trying to put her to sleep.
12. I love it when Elliot speaks Spanish . . . and occasionally translates everything I say to Stella as if she understood only Spanish.
13. I love how Elliot purposely sings monotone when I’m trying to sing to Stella . . . it’s extremely difficult to sing on tune when he does that!
14. I love how Elliot needs the toilet paper to come off of the top of the roll. My bathroom time has improved dramatically since he taught me how to install a new roll of toilet paper correctly.
15. I love Elliot’s extra commentary when he’s reading books to Stella (i.e. pointing out inaccuracies in machinery or airplanes, or simply making fun of the story in general).
16. I used to hate it, but now it’s sort of endearing that Elliot needs to announce it to me every time he’s ready to go (which is usually WAY before I’m ready).
17. I love how thoughtful Elliot is and how eloquent he is in his letters and notes.
18. I love it that Elliot likes to sing at the piano and really wants to learn the different parts to the hymns.
19. I love Elliot’s feet and his legs . . . and his chest and back and his arms and hands and those brown eyes on his beautiful head . . . and the rest of the connection from top to bottom.
20. Elliot always wants me to wake up with him in the morning, but I am usually too tired or lazy. But on those rare mornings when I actually do wake up, I love to see how much he really loves to see me in the morning no matter what I look like or how bad my breath stinks.
21. I love it when Elliot makes himself laugh (i.e. online dictionary pronunciation). That’s usually when the hiccups come.
22. I don’t really like it when other people do it, but I love Elliot’s perfectly-timed shock-value comments.
23. I love knowing that Elliot misses me.
24. I love Elliot's identification and description of the exact sound your fart made (i.e. a stick rubbing down a corrugated wash board).
25. I love it that Elliot is so organized.
26. I love it that Elliot is not afraid to be sensitive.
27. I love how Elliot knew what “our song” was before I did.
28. I love that Elliot loves to go to the temple.
29. I love it that I’m married to the smartest man alive!
30. I love that Elliot tries so hard all year to act like he doesn’t care about his birthday and then the week before it all happens, he asks every day “what did you get me?”

Happy Birthday Daddy-O!

Happy Birthday to my wonderful father! I love you so much Dad! . . . and we're still trying to find evidence that supports the fact that you're the only normal one in the family.

Fall Festival

Our ward missionaries put on a Fall Festival for the ward at the end of September. Stella totally cheated in some of the games and loved to get her face painted! Elliot and I did the bobbing for apples. After we were done, my friend reminded us how many kids and other people had been bobbing for apples during the evening . . . thanks for the disgusting reminder Myra. Mike didn't quite capture the tie between us, but it was a fun activity! Jason Harms won the jalepeno eating contest and all I can say is that I'm just very grateful that Elliot didn't participate. Stella, Bailey and Justin (and a few others) danced, and Stella was obsessed with the fact that her and Bailey had the same shoes.

Kimmie’s Jokes

Among the many fantastic qualities that my good friend Kimmie is known for (including karaoke queen, back-up singer/dancer, and insta-friend), joke-maker-upper is one of them. I don't know if she still does, but she used to send her jokes to Reader's Digest every day. A while ago when Kimmie told me she needed to return one of my cake pans, she told me that it wouldn't be returned empty. I told her not to make me anything because of my diet restrictions these days. She refused to return it empty, so she filled it with these jokes:

Q: What dessert do people eat after they crawl around in the dirt?
A: Brown-knees

Q: What do you call someone who is not very strong for 7 days?
A: week

Q: What do you get when you combine soda and a motorcycle?
A: A Pop-sicle

Q: What sickenss do you get from baking too much bread?
A: A yeast infection

Q: What do you call it if you throw a party for your phone?
A: A cell-ebration

Q: What would Lehi’s son say if he was a giant?
A: Ne-phi-fo-fum!

Kimmie is one of the best people in the WORLD (and there aren't that many)!
