Happy #3 Birthday Kimbal!

Milk Drinkers

I'm not a huge fan of milk unless it is accompanied by cookies or has just enveloped a favorite cereal. I drink the milk out of my cereal bowl. I do. It is meant to be sipped out, why else would they make these handy bowls with the straws.

I didn't know there were people who didn't drink their milk out of their cereal bowl until I met Elliot and he screamed like a woman after first witnessing me sipping up my sugary Life cereal milk. He nearly faints when we drink our milk.

Do you drink your cereal milk? I'm curious, so take my survey on the right!

Another Hair Incident

Why the tears? You may wonder, so I may tell you.

Yesterday I decided that Stella's "bangs" were about long enough to finally blend into the rest of her hair and cut real bangs. I called up my friend to get an appointment for Stella in the afternoon. Stella was VERY VERY excited to finally have bangs.

When we were in the car running errands, I had the hair rules reminder conversation.

MOM: "Who gets to cut our hair?"
STELLA: "Sister Palmer."
MOM: "Are you going to cut your hair when we get home?"
STELLA: "No."

I thought it was funny how she wasn't really conversing with me, but giving me the short answers. So not like my Stella. I also noticed that she was holding the side of her hair. Curious.

So when I told her that she'd owe me money if she cut her own hair, TEARS lept from her eyes as she exclaimed, "I THINK I HAVE GUM IN MY HAIR!!!"

You can see the little wad of gum on her left side. She was absolutely devastated while I just laughed. She was apologizing profusely, which makes me feel horrible for how I must have reacted to previous hair incidents. I love it when I have my camera close by.

Dear Jif,
Thank you for concocting peanut butter goodness that is not only yummy for my tummy, but also removes gum from my daughters hair, thus saving us from an unsightly short, short hair cut. I am a choosie mom, and I choo-choo-choose Jif.

Stella recovered from the crying and was very happy to have the gum out of her hair even if she did smell like peanut butter. She was so happy to have Sister Palmer cut her bangs!

I thought she was vain before . . . good grief! She's been stopping by every car to look in their side mirrors at herself. If there is a reflection to be seen, she'll see it.

Jolly Holiday With You Elliot

Thank you for taking me to see Mary Poppins Sweetie! I love you! Happy Valentine's Day!

Mary Poppins has always been a favorite of mine. I have a crush on Bert. I like how his legs kick about as if independent of his body. I absolutely die laughing every time I watch this part of Michael skipping. I think I'll float to the ceiling if I laugh harder. :)

Reward Chart

Time for something new. By 10:30 a.m. Stella had filled out her own reward chart for the rest of Saturday and as you can see, she already decided that she wasn't going to LISTEN & OBEY or CLEAN UP.

The Help

Flour . . . not fun to clean up.

Battle of Wills: Stella vs. Mommy

I take full responsibility for having a daughter that only likes sweets, chicken nuggets, and peanut butter and honey sandwiches. I truly believe that you create picky eaters. I did.

Dinner is generally terrible in our house. If the plate doesn't contain chicken nuggets (and even sometimes if it does), an impromptu speech about how disgusting the dinner is is quite underway before the prayer is even said.

Stella was horrified when I made Shepherd's Pie the other night. What she didn't know was that I was ready to match her stubborn mood. I have some friends that make their kids eat their dinner for breakfast if they don't eat it that night. I was quite prepared to do the same. Stella didn't believe me. She ate one green bean, and only after she'd scraped off any sign of mashed potatoes. She agreed to eat it in the morning for breakfast after I'd given her at least 3 chances to eat it at dinner, even warming it up a couple of times.

STELLA = 0, MOMMY = 1

The next morning I warmed up her portion of the Shepherd's Pie on her little plate as I made yummy eggs and toast for her Daddy. She miraculously also craved some eggs that morning. I told her that I'd be super happy to make her some eggs too after she was done eating her dinner/breakfast. She ate another green bean. Refused to eat more. Get this . . . the little poo is so sassy. Here's part of our conversation:

MOMMY: "Stella, you can't eat anything else until you eat your dinner/breakfast."
STELLA: "I'll have a snack at school."
MOMMY: (glaring a little bit) "I guess I'll have to call Mrs. Cahill and tell her that you can't have your snack today."
STELLA: "You don't know her number."

AAAAHHHHHH!!!! I maintained my calm (it's my goal to remove emotion from my discipline). I put the now very mixed up Shepherd's Pie back in the tupperware to save for her lunch. She agreed to eat it for lunch. I didn't believe her, and she didn't believe I'd make her really eat it.

STELLA = 1, MOMMY = 1

(Elliot had concerns that someone might think we were starving our daughter. The food was being presented, but denied. Her choice. I also decided NOT to involve the school in our little dispute and agreed to let her have her snack at school.)

The minute Stella got into the car after school she was asking for a peanut butter and honey sandwich. I told her that I'd be delighted to make her one just as soon as her Shepherd's Pie was gone. ALL of it. I'd given her the chance the night before to take just 3 more bites, but by the next day I was determined to see her eat the whole thing. Mean Mommy.

I warmed up the Shepherd's Pie for the 4th time.

Stella's definition of torture is not that I was forcing her to eat what was now truly disgusting, but that she quite understood that she'd be sitting in her chair all afternoon until her food was gone . . . AND that the demolition crew across the street was in motion AND I wouldn't let her go see it until every morsel was gone from her plate! TORTURE! (plus I was taking pictures, she wasn't very happy about that either)

I sat next to her in a perfectly delightful mood, encouraging her to eat her food for 75 minutes. I told her a story about her cousin Karl who did not like peas, but was also forced to eat his food. He would stand on his chair (I didn't encourage that one), put the pea in his mouth, spin around and swallow. She liked that idea. She quickly stuffed a bite in her mouth and began spinning until I thought she'd barf. Five minutes later her plate was clean . . . AND she likes Shepherd's Pie.

STELLA = 2, MOMMY = 2 . . . I like WIN-WIN situations.

AND she got to watch the demolition.
