Book Club - A Girl Named Zippy

Can't really say I read it . . . or that I even held the book in my hands. I wasn't able to go to the last book club, so I didn't even read it. I'd like to read it eventually, when I ever have the chance to find the book. I couldn't find it anywhere! Anyway, the next book club book is Austenland, by Shannon Hale.

Memorial Day = Denny's & Bowling

Stella is really into lip gloss. However, when she has it on (and plenty of it), she won't put her lips together and she talks weird and occasionally drools. She doesn't want to mess it up.

Stella loved her first time bowling and even got a strike!

Mother Dibble was really excited about getting a Spare!

Oh, hey look! It's my adorable, single, sister-in-law Bethany! If you have a mature single brother/brother-in-law/friend/cousin who likes quoting movies, dogs, playing games (and occasionally getting yelled at), and hanging out with a totally fun girl - give me a call . . . we'll hook you up! :) P.S. Being good at bowling is not necessary. (love you Beth!)

Too bad you all missed Elliot's cheerleading dance after he got this STRIKE!

I love these kids.

Grandpa was having a good time too.

FYI - I beat Elliot on the second game.

Girls Camp 2008

Elliot and I went to spend a few days with the girls and Girls Camp in Pine, AZ. It was MISERABLY COLD & RAINING on Friday and Saturday, but Sunday brought the sunshine! I wouldn't have minded staying an extra day because it was so much warmer! I think the girls were having a great time! This year breaks our record of how many girls have gone to girls camp from our ward . . . 5 this year! I love the feeling of time slowing down when I'm camping (and not running after Stella . . . thanks Grandma). I got a nap, I got to read, I got to hang out with my husband, people fed me and cleaned up after me, and I had absolutely no responsibilities. I think everyone should have a day or so of this feeling. It's a good one.

Elliot's new favorite is the marshmallow shooters. As soon as he picked one up, 2 girls started pelting him with mini-marshmallows and even got him in the eye!

President Clegg (our Stake President) was even shooting me, an innocent by-stander, and then he would totally giggle afterwards!

Here are our 3 first-timers on the Zipline - Heather, Beth, and Shea. They were all pretty terrified to go, but they all enjoyed it and went again . . . and I didn't hear about any embarrassing stories that sometimes accompany the zipline.

After Bishop's night of games, the whole camp got together for the Bishop's Challenge. They had to strap this band around their face and stretch it out to bite the marshmallow off of a string (lots of marshmallows going on here).

Elliot couldn't quite reach it in time!

President Brown (our old Bishop) got it with one bite!

President Clegg was actually dancing, yes, dancing as he was eating his marshmallow.

This is Holly the Camp Director. She challenged the last set of bishops and got the band in the eyes! Ouch!

Sunday was a nice day. It's kind of nice to have church outside.

WANTED

WANTED:
A list of neutral comments a husband can say to his wife before he really decides what he thinks about her new hair color/do. This list of comments will replace the one's he actually says to his wife as she walks through the door. Really . . . anything else will do.

Hannah's Birthday

We celebrated Hannah's 1st birthday on Saturday! For those of my friends who were too embarrassed to tell Lindsay that you look at her blog and in turn weren't invited to continue looking at it, Hannah's palate repair surgery went really well and she is, of course, perfect! Happy Birthday Hanny-Banany! We love you!

"Everybody clap your hands!" . . . Hannah just learned how to clap her hands and she's so cute! (Elliot would like everyone to know that he's just scratching his nose)

Hannah is now officially of diva status.

"YES! I conquered the birthday cake!"

"Can't they just let me be dirty once in a while?"

Omlettes

I guess it happened long before I ever met Elliot. Father Dibble is an omlette connoisseur. If we happen to show up that their house on a Saturday morning and occasionally on a special Sunday dinner, Papa Dibble will make us a custom ordered omlette. He has the "flip" down to a fine science (my timing was off). He's even stopped making fun of me for only putting cheese and bacon in mine. Thanks for the omlettes!

Alex & Alecia

Look what we found! My nephew Alex and niece Alecia in the May 2008 issue of The Friend, page 46, Kimberly Second Ward. Their Primary built a replica of the Twin Falls Temple out of sugar cubes representing a temple ordinance performed by a ward member. Alex is the handsome boy standing towards the left of the picture in the light blue polo shirt with stripes. Alecia is the gorgeously poised young woman at the right of the picture in the red shirt (this has to be an old story because Alecia is already 13-years-old). I'm famous.

Mario's Graduation

Our friend (and occasionally Stella's prince) Mario Ybarra graduated from Seminary last night. He is graduating from high school today. Mario is such a great kid. He was baptized last June and is such a great example for us and for all the youth in our ward!

Daddy-O Dibble

Several weeks ago I was driving somewhere and saw a Dibble Engineering truck at an intersection with the surveyors in the middle of the road.

You know me and my mood changes . . . all of the sudden I just got teary-eyed and felt so proud of my father-in-law. He was just elected President of Dibble Engineering earlier this year after faithfully working there since 1973. I'm so grateful for hard worker that he was as my sweetie was growing up and the great example he continues to be for my family! He also makes fabulous omlettes!

Here is the little write up on the website:

Dibble Engineering is proud to announce that Kent M. Dibble, PE, RLS, has been elected President.

Kent joined Dibble in 1973, and most recently served as Transportation Practice Leader. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Arizona State University and is a licensed Professional Engineer in Arizona and New Mexico and a Registered Land Surveyor in Arizona.

Richard J. Perry, PE, RLS, formerly President and Chief Executive Officer, was elected Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Dibble Engineering and continues his involvement in the firm's operations.

AND HERE'S A LITTLE SHOUT-OUT TO MOTHER DIBBLE who we are equally proud of! Behind every great man is an even greater woman!

Is it OK if it's in Spanish?

After church on Sunday and at Stella's request, I made her a cheese sandwich in the microwave. As I was taking it out of the microwave, I tossed it around in my hands and said, "Oh, that's hot!" Not even a half second later, Stella said, "Diablo!" (a Spanish swear . . . uh oh!)

The Harvest

Here was yesterday's harvest! I love zucchini and squash because you can actually see them grow throughout the day!

Guess what Dad brought back from Kalamazoo?

Photography Blog

If I happened to start another blog (I know, I'm obsessed) to display some of my favorite pictures that I've taken, what should I call it? I'm going to steal a little idea from Kimmie and give someone a prize for coming up with the best name for my new photography blog. Don't get too excited, it won't be anything big. Plus, it is only for people that I actually know and live within a convenient distance of my house.

Vegetables taste so much better . . .

. . . when you grow them yourself!

Musicals and Kelly Clarkson's Biggest Fan

Most of this video is from October of last year when Stella would watch The Sound of Music almost every day. I usually play Rolf while Stella takes the part of Leisl Von Trapp. She is also a big fan of Kelly Clarkson and more recently, Wicked.

Also, it looks like I never clean my house, but I do . . . sometimes.

Stella's Celebrity Morph by MyHeritage

I had to do two morph's on Stella because they were funny! Her best, yes the best, match was for Lil Wayne (whoever that is!). The others were Kate Bosworth, Gabrielle Union, Emma Watson, the young Michael Jackson, and Candice Cameron. I thought Donny Osmond was the best!

Elliot's Celebrity Morph by MyHeritage

Isn't Elliot pretty? Justin Timberlake was actually the only male celebrity that came up for him. The best match was Penelope Cruz and others before JT were Jessica Alba, Josie Maran, Mischa Barton, and Rachel Bilson.

Whitney's Celebrity Morph by MyHeritage

Who the crap is Kelly Hu? I was also matched with Queen Latifah, Rubens Barrichello (who I assume is a racecar driver), Elisha Cuthbert, Holly Marie Combs, Kiana Tom, Tiffani Thiessen, and my favorite . . . Tracy Ulman, nice.

Book Club

At April's Book Club last week, we discussed the book "The Proper Care and Feeding of Husbands." It's not a cookbook like I had originally thought when I heard the name of the book (I know, I'm a moron). I was a little nervous to do this book because a group of women talking can always turn into a husband bashing/praising session. Thankfully the group was fairly on task the whole time.

I think Dr. Laura Schlessinger has several great points on how to make your husband happy. However, I think she's way off on some things as well. For instance, she says that a man won't stray (whether it's an affair, pornography or whatever) if you treat him properly. Elliot also agrees with me on this, as we both say that whether you treat your husband like crap or not, he still has to make the CHOICE to do those things. Dr. Laura describes men as simple creatures who only need a few things to be happy. This, however, doesn't necessarily describe ALL men . . . for instance, my husband. Not that he's high maintenance or anything, but he's way more complex than the "simple creatures" she writes about in her book. I can't say that it was my favorite book in the whole world, but I enjoyed reading it and it gave me some good reminders of how I can be nicer to my Sweetie! One of the quotes from a man in her book that made me laugh was, "If I'm not horny, make me a sandwich."

Random Swelling

As my brothers and sisters can confirm, I've always had a bit of an issue with random swelling. I would wake up with the random swollen lip and Miles would have a random swollen eye (to compliment his head-gear hair). (I know we all look like a bunch of dreadful souls, but we all turned out okay. I'm the looker there in the pink and white stripes.)

My mom always explained the random swelling away with saying that it was a mosquito bite. Now that I look back, there was never any itching that goes along with those pesky mosquito bites. Sorry Mommy dearest, you were wrong.

Next story, a little more random. I had to have been about 15 or 16 years old. My family was in Vancouver, Washington visiting our cousins. I was always in the middle ages of not being old enough to play with the older kids, but too old and big to play with the little kids. So I was super excited when my older siblings and cousins invited me to go to the mall with them on this visit (I guess Lindsay was there too, but she was much cooler than I was . . . I'm used to the sympathy invite). I felt like the most popular person in the world as we started walking through the mall . . . until Miles looked over at me and said, "Whit, what's wrong with your forehead?" Imagine the domino effect of 15 cousins heads turning to look at my swelling forehead! Random.

I'm not sure what it is, maybe a reaction to being sick or medication or something. I've been really sick for the last 2 weeks, also randomly because I'd only get sick in the afternoons (no I'm not pregnant). I got home from the park one day and the tip of my ring finger on my right hand started feeling really tight. I didn't get a picture, but it was definitely swollen. Weird.

That night as I was a hit at a Stake Bishopric Wives dinner party (they all like Elliot, so they automatically think I'm cute too). I had just polished off my taco salad when I licked my enormous bottom lip . . . random swelling AGAIN! What is wrong with me?

This picture was taken as the swelling was going down.
