The Toy Plan

I'm drowning in the abyss that is my house! Since I have been sick (pretty much all year), I've not been able to get myself caught up on cleaning my house. It's actually become so overwhelming that I just have stopped and Stella has taken over . . . not in a good way. Stella's room especially has become a headache. She's always had WAY too many toys that she never even plays with. However, she becomes very sentimentally attached as soon as I mention giving them away.

I've tried to be really organized in her room having difference canvas bins for baby, balls, kitchen, play-doh, princess, etc. . . . pretty much everything she has that can be categorized has a bin. However, it's not something that she's ever been able (or willing) to clean up herself.

So I have a plan! We went to IKEA and bought a toy box. I wasn't disappointed when Stella happened to pick out one of the smallest toy boxes. This way, ALL of her toys that we're going to keep will need to fit into this one toy box. If it doesn't fit, we don't keep it. Plus, it'll be super easy for her to clean up her own stuff without having to organize every little thing. One place for everything. I know, I'm a genius.

We haven't organized just yet, but my Mom and Dad came over last Saturday and were a HUGE help in getting me back on track with my house. Mom was inside helping me clean what I haven't cleaned in a month and Dad was outside cleaning out my garden that we actually planted on Monday. Mom even cleaned Stella's room and Dad took the screens off my front window to clean them and now I can see out my window! Bless them! We still need to tackle the organization of Stella's room, but now that I can breathe, it feels totally doable!

In other news, Stella can't seem to stay in her Primary class. She or her teacher have come to get me from Relief Society during the last 10 minutes of class. Complaints of her loose tooth hurting, having a tummy ache, or just not wanting to be in Primary because it's boring are the excuses. And since I don't have any original parenting ideas and just learn all my good parenting tricks from my friends (thanks to Brooke on this one), Stella owed me 10 minutes after church of just sitting reverently on the couch. She said that was a lot more boring than Primary. We had a long conversation about participating and paying attention and being respectful and how that would turn boring into totally fun. We'll see how she does in the coming weeks.

16 Weeks Pregnant

February 25, 2011
SICKNESS: I had a nasty flu and cold that kind of wiped me out for weeks. I get sort of sickish around 4:30 in the afternoon if I don't get a nap during the day. Other than that, I'm just tired and totally healthy. I've even gone to the gym twice. Yoga nearly killed me and Elliot had a great time torturing me by pushing on the sore muscles in my arms.
CRAVINGS: I'm done with Hershey's Kisses. I've moved on to fried chicken . . . I know, I'm totally repulsive. I've noticed that I've been preferring milk during my meals and I also drink more protein. I ate Sonic almost every day when I was pregnant with Stella and now it sounds disgusting. However, if it's just fries, I'll take them. I'm greasy.
FEELINGS: I got to hear Baby's heartbeat at my last appointment 2 weeks ago and we get to have an ultrasound on March 10th to see the little one! We're so excited! I started buying diapers and Elliot thinks I'm crazy. He'll thank me later when I won't have to send him to the store every other day to get them. Plus, I think it's just at least something that I can purchase to feel like I'm getting prepared since we don't know if it's a boy or girl yet. I'm getting kind of antsy . . . especially because my sister calls me every day to ask if I know yet. I felt the BABY MOVE a week ago and I am positive that it wasn't gas (ok Lindz, I know the difference). I love to feel Baby move! I am happy to wear maternity clothes and can't wait for my belly to get enormous . . . I'm well on my way!

Daddy Daughter Date

I'd like to say that I got a lot of stuff done in the nearly 5 hours Elliot and Stella were on their Daddy/Daughter Date, but I took a nap and acted like I may have ironed 3 shirts, and watched Winter Wipeout instead.

Elliot took Stella on a date a couple of weeks ago at Lifetime Fitness (with Adam and his girls). They got to dress up and got a corsage and boutonniere and danced the night away. After that date, Elliot took a very willing Stella to the Youth Conference activity where she showed off her flexibility and infiltrated herself into several pictures.

She was super excited for the date and flowers and especially happy when I told her how lucky she was that Daddy took her dancing because he never takes me dancing. She felt very, very special and I am happy about that.

Susan's Run 2011

On Saturday, February 19th, we participated in 2nd Annual Susan's Run at Kiwanis Park in honor of our friend Susan Mortensen Turley who passed away a couple of years ago after battling colon cancer. They added a 10K to the race this year for some serious runners, Elliot did the 5K again, and Stella and I did the 1-mile Fun Run which I think should be renamed without the word "fun" because is running ever really fun?

I'm surprised at how sore my shins were especially since we didn't really run the whole time because we had to stop and look in the pond several times as well as change the songs on the iPod for Stella. She is not a serious runner.

Elliot has really nice posture when he's running.

According to Bethany's hair, it looks like she's running really fast, but I have it on good authority that she was seen stopped several times talking to people along the race route.

Elliot grew up with the Mortensen family and also worked with Susan before she passed away, so there are always a lot of people we know at this event. It's almost like a family reunion because I recognize faces, but don't remember names.

I love to support such a beautiful cause!

Funny and Sometimes Not So Funny

During a hike we took recently, I heard Stella and her cousin Anabelle mention the name Justin Beiber (or Beaver as Stella says), and then I heard Beyoncé. I honed in on the conversation, thinking that surely this 6- and 7-year-old didn't know anything about her. Then I heard, "And she doesn't even know how to wear pants!"

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

Stella was having some quiet time in her room one Sunday afternoon. When I came to get her, I noticed her picture of President Monson taped outside her door on the wall. I asked her about it and she said that he was in TIME OUT. She needs siblings.

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

I got a call from the school nurse saying that Stella was complaining of a tummy ache. I talked to Stella on the phone and said that I would come pick her up if she was feeling sick. I did mention as well that she'd have to take a nap if she came home. She opted to stay at school. When I picked her up from school at the end of the day, I said,

MOM: "How are you feeling Stella?"
STELLA: "I pooped 4 times."
MOM: "Poop or diarreah?"
STELLA: "It was a pattern. Poop, diarreah, poop, diarreah."

I'm so glad I didn't get this picture text while I was at church because I couldn't stop laughing! When my family was here in November, most of them stayed with my Uncle David and Aunt Lora. This is funny all by itself, but to make it doubly funny, please read THIS STORY from 1999 when my sister Natalie and I stayed at my Uncle David and Aunt Lora's house. We've come to the conclusion that UD and AL skimp on the plumbing in their houses. It couldn't possibly be Anderson poop related. By the way, it turns out Natalie plugged it before Adam did. Now I'm curious if she clogged it back in 1999 before I did. Interesting turn of events, I'd say.

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

Is it funny that people ruin their kids on purpose. And when I say funny, I really mean not funny at all. For instance, there is a little area behind a window at gymnastics where you can watch your kids. Some people don't have quiet voices. This lady was reprimanding her 10/11 year old son about being a baby about having to watch his brother at gymnastics when she has to watch every baseball, soccer, blah, blah, blah . . . guilt trip mother speech.

Then suddenly she started talking absolute crap about his father and how he has time to spend with them but chooses not to. He loves work more than them. She's talked to him several times about it, but he just won't understand. She's told him that he's going to regret not spending time with the kids while they were young and he's not going to have a relationship with them when they are older and they aren't going to respect him.

OK, maybe all of that information is true. Maybe their Dad does act like that. Results of him not spending time with his children could very well turn out like she said. HOWEVER, DON'T FREAKING SAY THAT TO YOUR KID!

I almost said something, but I'm sure I would have started crying. I just texted everyone I had a number for instead. The end.

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

OK, same crazy lady. Same poor 10/11 year old kid. Gymnastics again. No quiet voices. It was around Christmastime. I came into the middle of the conversation when he was saying that he knew that his Mom and Dad were Santa. His mother was absolutely adamant about the fact that the only thing that gets her up in the middle of the night is having to pee and that she wouldn't ever have time to get all of that Christmas stuff done.

Ok, is that cute? NO, it's NOT! The kid is 10! If he was 4 or 5, sure maybe try to keep up their imagination about Santa, but that kid is at the age where he knows his parents are full of crap and know they are LYING to him!

That lady needs parenting classes.

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

Punctuality is not our strong point. I've rubbed off on Stella. One morning after saying "HURRY!" a hundred times, I asked Stella if she even knew what that meant. She said no. Now if she's late 20 more times, I have to take a parenting class. Nice.

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

I love to hear little conversations between Stella and her cousins. After watching Tangled at the theater, Anabelle and Stella were talking about the Justin Bieber movie preview called "Never Say Never," when Anabelle said, "Duh, he just said NEVER!"

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

While bowling with the family, the little kids (Stella, Hannah, Tatem, and Brynlee) became bored very quickly. Lindsay had electronic devices to keep them occupied between turns, but Tatem would have none of the bowling. One time Natalie dragged her up to bowl while she still had the game in her hand. She didn't even look up, she just pushed the bowling ball off the ramp with one hand while still holding on to the game.

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

One late night Elliot was talking about his busy schedule. It may have been funnier late at night, but still funny nonetheless. He numbered off all of the things he needed to do for the week and then he said, "I'm not a super hero, though that would be really cool . . ." then he just went on with his serious conversation. I must have been delirious. I couldn't stop laughing.

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

It's been fun to have my 2 1/2-year-old niece Tatem here visiting. She's like a crazier version of Stella that doesn't necessarily like people so much. Like if I see her and try to give her a hug, she'll run away crying for 10 minutes. It's sort of a hit a miss. But now we're sort of BFF's. In fact, she'd rather have me wipe her butt than anyone.

Anyway, now that we're on good terms, she makes me laugh because she is a little crazy. And by a little, I really mean a lot. What makes me laugh even harder is when she'll start dancing and singing along when I change the words to "All the Single Ladies" to "All the Crazy Ladies" in her honor.

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

Hannah's double-barrel sneeze that made Stella nearly climb out of the train cart like Jackie Kennedy.

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

Once upon an hora, my amigo, Rufus, took a walk looking for his toenail clippings. He met a senorita along the way. She asked, "May I be your first kiss?"

"I would," he replied, "but your breath smells like burnt sausage."

E hola de la pistola!

(story written by Lindsay Bangart during a ridiculous game on New Year's Eve)

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

As I was driving the other day, I saw a sign that said, "Jody's Body Waxing and Harmonic Healing". Is it just me, or is that an oxymoron?

After Church

If I need to find Stella after church, I just have to look for the Bill's family because Stella will be there holding their baby girl Berkeley. This girl is going to be so excited when she doesn't have to go anywhere but her own house to hold a baby soon!

3rd Tooth Gone

Stella just pulls them out herself. She has 3 other teeth that are loose (the one opposite of this one and her top 2), but they seem to take their sweet time before getting loose enough to pull.

The silly Tooth Fairy forgot to come, but I'm sure she was just confused from the last time when Stella requested that she not come because she has "too many dollars." She did come the next night bearing interest from the missed night before (thanks Dad), but little Stella was disappointed because the $2 was in the form of coin instead of paper. Never satisfied.

The Gory Details

I'll admit that I do sometimes say that my head will explode. I probably say it more than I should, but I never imagined what Stella might be imagining when I say that. She's a little disgusting. Here is a letter that she wrote to her teacher . . .

. . . a letter that her teacher will never see.

The Wee Babe

Here's our wee babe at 8 weeks on January 3rd. I love this little miracle. Isn't it amazing that just 2 weeks before this, it was just a little fuzz and now it's recognizable as a baby? What? You can't see it? Yah, neither could Elliot.

Let me explain. That black sac is my uterus. The baby is the white peanut inside the sac. The little one is head down. The head is very, very large. It's little bum is pointing off to the right corner and it's little legs are across the top. Can you see it now? It is so incredibly adorable!

My specialist didn't do this ultrasound, some other lady there did it. I've decided that after having 2 incidents without my own doctor that I will always insist on seeing my own doctor every time. This one wasn't as bad as the practitioner I saw once when I was pregnant with Stella who made me cry for gaining weight and then told me to wear nylons in the dead of summer, but she was still weird.

I hardly ever have questions, but I remembered to ask about exercise this time. She looked at me and said, "You exercise?" I didn't think I looked that bad even if I haven't exercised since November. Annoyed, I said yes. She asked what kind of exercise I do. Please picture her reaction as if I was slapping her repeatedly across the face as I said, "running, lifting, step, yoga, pilates, . . ." She quickly said, "NO! None of that! These babies are too hard worked for to risk that exercise."

"May I walk?" or shall I borrow my friend's wheelchair for the duration of this pregnancy? I thought exercise was good during pregnancy. Well, turns out it is and her ridiculous restriction was lifted at my next appointment.

I got to HEAR the baby's heartbeat at my appointment 2 weeks later and I'm so excited to hear it again this Thursday at my appointment!

Check back on March 10th for the BIG REVEAL! Boy or girl? So far I think it's a boy, Stella goes back and forth, but we both don't care one way or the other and Elliot is really hoping for another girl (it's more convenient and I won't bother him about doing the addition to the house if it's a girl).

Is it weird to feel like I'm making this all up? I feel like I've waited so long that actually talking about it and having it be a reality is so crazy to me! Plus the stress of picking out a pregnancy ticker countdown . . . it's all too much! :)

12 Weeks Pregnant

January 30, 2011
SICKNESS: Stinky gymnastics feet and a sweaty husband just back from a bike ride spitting into the garbage can . . . near barfing on all accounts.
CRAVINGS: Could someone hook up a Hershey's Kiss IV?
FEELINGS: So it turns out I'm a little grumpy. Who knew? I think I'm a perfectly delightful person. I'm just sooooo tired! I forget that it's been 7 years since Stella's pregnancy! I'm getting anxious to see the little heartbeat again (I might just have to borrow the heartrate machine from my friend after her baby is born). I was released from the specialist and now I just see my regular OB. I've been cleared to "run" again, though I'm not quite sure the specialist knew that I'm not really a runner but more of a fast walker. Well, I think I walk faster than I run sometimes. In any case, I'm cleared for full exercise. Clothes are getting tight, but it might just be because of all the Hershey's Kisses and lack of exercise. Apparently my 10 week belly is much bigger than my 12 week belly.

10 Weeks Pregnant

January 16, 2011
SICKNESS: none
CRAVINGS: Hershey's Kisses
FEELINGS: So excited to see my belly grow. It just popped out on this very day!

8 Weeks Pregnant

December 26, 2010
SICKNESS: none
CRAVINGS: none
FEELINGS: Just super happy . . . holy moly, we're happy!

My Little Flicker

So here's a crazy thing that happened at the beginning of December . . . I just decided to take my last pregnancy test one day. December 7th to be exact. I had a reason or two to maybe think that it might be not a waste, but DID NOT really expect it to be positive.

Rewind a little bit to the beginning of May 2010. I was actually shocked to find out that I was pregnant. I had 2 pregnancies in 2008, but nothing again until May. However, disappointment seems to creep into our happiest moments sometimes. By the end of August, I was pregnant again . . . we were shocked. Again, disappointment and holy cow, just sadness.

A week after my miscarriage in September, I was sitting in a fertility specialists chair and he was telling me that we needed to do tests to see if the mixture of mine and Elliot's genes were killing our babies. Huh. That's something you want to find out. I left his office with a promise that we could get things started after testing by January 2011.

I'm telling you right now that THIS baby didn't want to wait until January. Are you kidding? It turns out I'm quite fertile! At least 2010 was a very fertile year. Of course, I was nervous. Very nervous. The first several weeks after I find out I'm pregnant are absolute torture. It takes forever to get 6 weeks pregnant . . . then 7 . . . then holy crap, I have to wait longer?

I was looking forward to my first ultrasound appointment with the specialist. Wait, no I wasn't. I actually dreaded it. I've had so many ultrasounds with techs that won't say anything to me and then the doctor has to come in 45 minutes later to tell me that there was no cardiac activity when I already knew. I was not looking forward to this again.

I was silent. The specialist was in the room, but he had his sidekick start the ultrasound. I think he could see my tortured look, not because of the type of ultrasound, but because the sidekick was taking too long to give a report, so my Doctor took over.

"Did you see that flicker?" he said nearly right away.

HEARTBEAT. I saw the flicker. The most precious little flicker I've ever witnessed in my life.
Due August 2011. Isn't that the cutest little mess of fuzz and flicker you've seen?

DECEMBER: New Year's Eve

We spent the rest of the afternoon and evening at the Bangarts with more eating and some sleeping and wrangling the children.

We also watched funny videos on YouTube.

The Dramatic Chipmunk and Monkey Sniffer among my top 5.

And though some of us just watched football, I'm glad it was there because he would have hated this ridiculous game we played. I played for over an hour and still only moved a few spaces. Everyone else got caught behind me and if you were on the same space, you had to hold hands with each other no matter where you were around the table. Lindsay had to hold hands while writing one of the funniest stories I've ever heard.

Elliot, Stella and I had to leave before the year expired, so I didn't actually witness these next 2 pictures, nor do I have any idea what they were doing.

You just had to do whatever the card said.

Including letting people touch your head. This may have been a good therapy session for Natalie who does not like to be touched.

HAPPY NEW YEAR! I wasn't awake, but it happened.
