What?

WHAT? I'm confused! I almost wanted to do a teleconference for the Book Club that I missed while I was in Mexico just so I could be enlightened on what just happened in this book! We need to talk girls.

What I do know is that I need to add Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights to my list of books to read. They are mentioned in almost every book I've read!

Good Grief

I made a goal in 2008 to read more books . . . or, for me, to read a book. So I joined a Book Club and read a book a month as well as a few others. This year I'm already feeling good about the books I've read and I am excited to read the other ones on my list. However, some books are just plain depressing. "Angela's Ashes" (by Frank McCourt) for instance.

I just finished it yesterday and though I actually didn't, I wanted to spit to get the sick taste that it left in my mouth. Even the first paragraph is depressing. I liked his style of writing, but it was just a sad existence for this guy. And boys are gross.

Now I have 2 books on the docket for Book Club and Book Worms (for church) which I hear are also depressing. Check with me later after I've made my appointment with the psychiatrist and popped a few prozacs then hand me the first 300 pages of "These Is My Words" so I can be pulled out of the depths of despair.

Whoever is next better pick a happy book.

BOOK CLUB - Cheaper By The Dozen

Book Club was several weeks ago, but I wasn't able to attend. I did, however, LOVE the book "Cheaper By The Dozen" by Frank B. Gilbreth, Jr. and Ernestine Gilbreth Carey.

I haven't seen either versions of the movie, so it wasn't at all what I thought it would be about. The father, though totally pompous and controlling, somehow made his family of 12 children run as efficiently as a factory and they all loved him!

The story wasn't necessarily in order, but it was a collection of vignettes from 2 of the Gilbreth children. They were hilarious! My favorite was when they were driving around town in their giant car (the kids were mortified) and everyone was staring. Some people would even make comments. One man said something about Noah and the Ark and collecting animals, to which Mr. Gilbreth replied (something like this), "Yeah, we're just trying to do what the Lord commanded. All we need now is a jackass. Climb in!"

Some of the stories just made us laugh out loud! Elliot read it too.
