The Harvest

Here was yesterday's harvest! I love zucchini and squash because you can actually see them grow throughout the day!

Guess what Dad brought back from Kalamazoo?

Photography Blog

If I happened to start another blog (I know, I'm obsessed) to display some of my favorite pictures that I've taken, what should I call it? I'm going to steal a little idea from Kimmie and give someone a prize for coming up with the best name for my new photography blog. Don't get too excited, it won't be anything big. Plus, it is only for people that I actually know and live within a convenient distance of my house.

Vegetables taste so much better . . .

. . . when you grow them yourself!

Musicals and Kelly Clarkson's Biggest Fan

Most of this video is from October of last year when Stella would watch The Sound of Music almost every day. I usually play Rolf while Stella takes the part of Leisl Von Trapp. She is also a big fan of Kelly Clarkson and more recently, Wicked.

Also, it looks like I never clean my house, but I do . . . sometimes.

Stella's Celebrity Morph by MyHeritage

I had to do two morph's on Stella because they were funny! Her best, yes the best, match was for Lil Wayne (whoever that is!). The others were Kate Bosworth, Gabrielle Union, Emma Watson, the young Michael Jackson, and Candice Cameron. I thought Donny Osmond was the best!

Elliot's Celebrity Morph by MyHeritage

Isn't Elliot pretty? Justin Timberlake was actually the only male celebrity that came up for him. The best match was Penelope Cruz and others before JT were Jessica Alba, Josie Maran, Mischa Barton, and Rachel Bilson.

Whitney's Celebrity Morph by MyHeritage

Who the crap is Kelly Hu? I was also matched with Queen Latifah, Rubens Barrichello (who I assume is a racecar driver), Elisha Cuthbert, Holly Marie Combs, Kiana Tom, Tiffani Thiessen, and my favorite . . . Tracy Ulman, nice.

Book Club

At April's Book Club last week, we discussed the book "The Proper Care and Feeding of Husbands." It's not a cookbook like I had originally thought when I heard the name of the book (I know, I'm a moron). I was a little nervous to do this book because a group of women talking can always turn into a husband bashing/praising session. Thankfully the group was fairly on task the whole time.

I think Dr. Laura Schlessinger has several great points on how to make your husband happy. However, I think she's way off on some things as well. For instance, she says that a man won't stray (whether it's an affair, pornography or whatever) if you treat him properly. Elliot also agrees with me on this, as we both say that whether you treat your husband like crap or not, he still has to make the CHOICE to do those things. Dr. Laura describes men as simple creatures who only need a few things to be happy. This, however, doesn't necessarily describe ALL men . . . for instance, my husband. Not that he's high maintenance or anything, but he's way more complex than the "simple creatures" she writes about in her book. I can't say that it was my favorite book in the whole world, but I enjoyed reading it and it gave me some good reminders of how I can be nicer to my Sweetie! One of the quotes from a man in her book that made me laugh was, "If I'm not horny, make me a sandwich."

Random Swelling

As my brothers and sisters can confirm, I've always had a bit of an issue with random swelling. I would wake up with the random swollen lip and Miles would have a random swollen eye (to compliment his head-gear hair). (I know we all look like a bunch of dreadful souls, but we all turned out okay. I'm the looker there in the pink and white stripes.)

My mom always explained the random swelling away with saying that it was a mosquito bite. Now that I look back, there was never any itching that goes along with those pesky mosquito bites. Sorry Mommy dearest, you were wrong.

Next story, a little more random. I had to have been about 15 or 16 years old. My family was in Vancouver, Washington visiting our cousins. I was always in the middle ages of not being old enough to play with the older kids, but too old and big to play with the little kids. So I was super excited when my older siblings and cousins invited me to go to the mall with them on this visit (I guess Lindsay was there too, but she was much cooler than I was . . . I'm used to the sympathy invite). I felt like the most popular person in the world as we started walking through the mall . . . until Miles looked over at me and said, "Whit, what's wrong with your forehead?" Imagine the domino effect of 15 cousins heads turning to look at my swelling forehead! Random.

I'm not sure what it is, maybe a reaction to being sick or medication or something. I've been really sick for the last 2 weeks, also randomly because I'd only get sick in the afternoons (no I'm not pregnant). I got home from the park one day and the tip of my ring finger on my right hand started feeling really tight. I didn't get a picture, but it was definitely swollen. Weird.

That night as I was a hit at a Stake Bishopric Wives dinner party (they all like Elliot, so they automatically think I'm cute too). I had just polished off my taco salad when I licked my enormous bottom lip . . . random swelling AGAIN! What is wrong with me?

This picture was taken as the swelling was going down.

First Fruits . . .

My gardens are growing so well. I thinned the corn, which isn't growing as well as everything else. Except for one corn stalk that is absolutely beautiful, but randomly placed in the squash and zucchini garden. I let it grow, just to see if it would. We had the first pick from the squash and zucchini on Friday night! Yummy!

Henry Edholm

Our friends Rebecca and Barry Edholm had their 6th child yesterday! Henry was born Friday, May 2, 2008 and was 9 pounds 5 ounces! He looks just like the other kids . . . so cute! Congratulations Barry, Rebecca, Beth, Bill, Lilli, David, and Heidi!

Tempe Stake Softball Champions

Last week our ward beat the Alameda ward in the Tempe Stake Softball Championship game. Elliot and I stopped by just to show support, planning on watching one game and getting Stella to bed early. They were so fun to watch and it was so entertaining to hear how Kimmie was heckling the other team's players that we stayed the whole time! They won a huge trophy that they worshipped during Elder's Quorum meeting on Sunday (J/K, but they did display it proudly). Congratultions Evergreen Ward!

As you can see, the kids were totally into the game.

Thanks for the pictures Kimmie!

Desert Breeze Park

Elliot and I took some of our engagement photos at Desert Breeze Park almost 9 years ago, but I didn't realize that it had a water park. We met Auntie Em, Sammy, Clarkie, and Macy and Aunt Kimmie (recently promoted by Stella to "Aunt Kimmie"), Stan and Noelle. It took Stella a while, but she eventually enjoyed the water spraying randomly at her.
The playground was more interesting to her though. At one point while the kids were playing in the playground, Sam sighed deeply and said, "How will I ever catch her, she is just so SO fast!"

It was so fun, in fact, that we went to the park gain the next day with Stacy, Mason, and Jane and met Em and kids and Brooke and Tyler, Justin, and Caleb.
